Events

When a child's temperature rises, parents can record the actions they took to reduce it, like medications they used. This can help them inform doctors if they need to seek medical attention.

Personal pharmacy

All the medications are listed here with descriptions, dosages, guidelines, and additional information needed. Parents have an overview of medication and can always access all the data. They no longer have to call the pharmacy or their pediatrician if they forget anything.

The app has a dark and a light mode. Parents can change it according to their needs and preferences.

Scoping

The project was challenging from the beginning because the software solution had to be combined with the hardware device. Their connection had to be stable and reliable. This is why we tested all of our initial ideas and prototypes.

UX Research

The design was tailored to meet the needs of parents. About 20 parents participated in the process and gave their comments and suggestions during this research phase. We took time to understand their needs and potential fears. Based on their feedback we created user personas, user flow, and a user journey map that ensured an intuitive experience for all.

Style Guide

The style guide ensured a visually attractive interface. Two themes - light and dark with blue and purple as main colors accommodate users' needs. The illustrations, fonts, and colors create a calm environment.

Design

With the design, we aimed to make the app appear easy to use and also present important data. By following the style guide we made the UI look friendly. The design followed user stories and turned features into visual elements that calm and guide parents through the app keeping in mind the importance of precision and sensitivity of the data.

05Software Architecture and Development

During development, we focused on scalability and functionality. This is because the connection between the hardware device and the app had to be steady. Our software architecture and the technologies we used ensured the stability of data transmission.

The hardware device uses BLE technology and acts as a beacon, emitting signals to the app. The app collects the data and responds to temperature changes with alarms. This way users are always notified on time.

For our database infrastructure, we chose NestJS with PostgreSQL for efficient data storage and management. We implemented an offline-first approach and integrated WatermelonDB for offline data saving. It syncs to the backend every 5 minutes. This improves data reliability. We also collected data for the ML classification model.

The app itself was developed using React Native. The expo development environment allowed integration with Android and iOS platforms. This made the user-friendly experience better and maximized reach and accessibility for different users.

Testing and Collecting Users' Feedback

We tested the reliability and accuracy of the mobile application and hardware device several times. Beta testing was done in partner clinics and we paid special attention to this phase. After the launch users’ feedback helped us improve the app and the overall experience even more.
