Bijlex is an enterprise-level EdTech platform that revolutionizes math learning in schools. Created by mathematicians for mathematicians, it helps students understand math through gamification, personalized feedback, and AI-powered mistake analysis. Dedicated software HUB for data entry
To streamline collaboration with math professors, we built a separate software hub. It allows content creators to prepare exercises, answers, and math modeling elements that are automatically synchronized with the main platform.
Event-driven, decoupled system architecture
Bijlex runs on a highly modular, event-based architecture, enabling smooth performance across separate systems (Hub, Student app, Teacher portal, Admin). This setup supports real-time triggers, flexible workflows, and data scalability without system overload.

Assignments, deadlines, and completion rates are all monitored. Teachers can see which students need help and when. This enables proactive intervention and improves classroom performance with minimal administrative overhead.
Content creator hub
Separate system for building, modeling, and managing exercises, used by professors and staff to feed content into the main platform. It ensures a continuous flow of high-quality, curriculum-aligned math content tailored to different student levels.
Step by Step
Scoping
We began by breaking the project into separate systems: Hub, Student app, Teacher portal, and Admin dashboard. Workshops with Lex and Dutch educators helped us define core features and align the software with educational goals.
UX Research
To ensure student engagement, the Dutch team ran interviews with teachers and mock classroom tests. We also collaborated with content creators to ensure that math problems and explanations matched curriculum needs and cognitive levels.
Style Guide
We defined a consistent design language based on school-friendly aesthetics: clear navigation, vibrant gamified elements, and simple typography. The mascot and achievement elements were designed to boost retention and enjoyment.
Design
UI wireframes for all user types (students, teachers, admins) were created and tested. Each screen was optimized for ease of use in both desktop and tablet environments, with student screens focused on engagement, and teacher screens focused on insight and oversight.
05Software Architecture and Development
Bijlex uses ReactJS for the frontend, NestJS for the backend, and PostgreSQL for the database. The system is modular, making it scalable and maintainable for long-term growth. We used event buses and websocket support for real-time updates that power interactive features like live feedback and progress tracking.
The backend architecture was designed to support high performance while handling large volumes of academic data, exercises, user behavior, and system events. The event-driven structure ensures that actions such as homework submissions, coin rewards, or teacher interventions trigger the correct system response without delays or data conflicts.
The entire system runs on AWS infrastructure, with strict access control, encryption, and database backups. This ensures compliance with European data privacy regulations and guarantees uptime and performance for schools using the platform daily.
We also implemented internal monitoring tools to track system behavior and quickly catch errors. These tools help both our team and the Bijlex team ensure reliability at scale, especially during classroom peak hours when many users interact at once.
Testing and Collecting Users' Feedback
Manual testing, exploratory testing, and real-life classroom pilots helped us polish the system. Beta testing revealed high engagement and positive feedback from both students and teachers, leading to early school commitments.
