About project

Gamified task management system that boosts motivation and productivity

Rewardly is a task management platform that boosts motivation and productivity with gamified features. Created by an ex-Google sales expert, it turns work into play. Employees win points by finishing tasks. These points can be redeemed for different rewards provided by the company. Gamified software makes work more enjoyable while increasing profit.

Solutions

Gamified UI/UX

Game-like elements boost productivity and motivate employees to finish tasks. They enjoy their work more and build a sense of community. Features like scoreboards, points, and rewards increase engagement and task performance. On a psychological level, employees experience work like play.

Web platform with a mobile-first approach

Research showed administrators would use the app on laptops, while employees chose mobile phones. Because of this, we decided to focus on developing a web platform with a mobile-first approach. This made it adaptable and easier to improve over time.

Admin dashboard

We created an admin dashboard that displays the most important KPIs and data from other tools like Jira and Zapier. This way, administrators can see the data in real time and track progress without exiting the platform.

The Result

The result was a gamified UI/UX task management system. A user-friendly, adaptable, and engaging platform that supports large amounts of data. Gamified features combined with analytics and a rewards system resulted in a software solution that was a market hit. Design based on psychology supported by a strong software architecture turned the client’s idea into a profitable solution.

Key Features

Task management system

Tracks progress by monitoring tasks employees do. Admins oversee changes and assign new tasks. Finishing tasks improves the score and the position on the scoreboard where all the employees are ranked.

Integrations with Jira and Zapier

Makes the platform compatible with company’s pre-existing tools. This way the software can be implemented immediately without worrying about information accessibility and data transfer between platforms.

Mini-games

Gamified features help and encourage employees to finish tasks. One of the main games on the platform features a robot employees can customize by finishing tasks. Mini-games turn work into a gamelike experience.

Analytics

Displays different data and insights about user behavior, performance, and other key metrics. Graphs represent metrics about progress and overall efficiency.

Streaming

Teams sometimes compete with each other in different challenges. This feature allows live streaming on big screens so all the employees can follow along.

Approach

Step by Step

Development step 1
01

Scoping

During the first two weeks of the project, we were scoping. The goal was to collect as much information about employee experience as possible and choose the right gamification elements. This is why we constantly communicate with our clients and potential users from day one.

Development step 2
02

UX Research

Understanding employees and their needs, preferences, and pain points was our top priority. We always think of the end users as our main clients. This is why we created a user flow that makes task management easier and more fun for employees based on user personas. Then we developed a user journey map to illustrate potential interactions with the platform and identify key touchpoints. This helped us and the client understand how the platform will work.

Development step 3
03

Style Guide

We invested time in creating a style guide based on psychology. It defines color palettes, typography, iconography, and other design elements that influence users. We paid special attention to the colors we used. The dominant colors of the platform are blue, orange, and green. We chose these colors because they trigger specific emotions like excitement or satisfaction. They motivate users to engage with the platform.

Development step 4
04

Design

Rewardly was designed so employees would perceive every functionality as a game. We combined research and creativity to develop a visually engaging and intuitive interface. The design presented the user stories visually, so we understood the platform’s functionality better. The gamified UI design ensured that every part of the platform looked like it was part of a game while keeping things professional.

05Software Architecture and Development

Rewardly’s development relied heavily on strong software architecture. This is why our tech stack focused on support and scalability.

Because the platform is very interactive we chose ReactJS for its frontend and NestJS for its backend architecture. This combination ensured a responsive and intuitive user experience. It also provided a solid foundation for further scalability and feature improvements with ease.

At its core, Rewardly relies on a PostgreSQL database to handle large amounts of data used by admins. It maintains optimal performance while ensuring smooth operations along with the platform’s growth. This was very important for our client because the platform is intended for big companies and corporations with thousands of employees.

Monitoring progress is the main objective so we used web sockets for real-time updates. This provides users with up-to-the-minute insights into tasks and achievements. This functionality helps with transparency and improves collaboration and efficiency.

Employees must be notified on time about tasks, events, challenges, and other work activities. Rewardly's in-app notification system utilizes an event bus mechanism to ensure that every action triggers relevant and timely notifications. This proactive approach keeps users informed and engaged. It creates a sense of involvement and accountability within the platform.

When it comes to gamification we built everything from scratch. We developed every gamified feature on the platform. This is what sets Rewardly apart from similar management tools. It is also what users love the most about the platform.

Testing and Collecting Users' Feedback

Before we deliver a product to a client, we always test it thoroughly. Testing is done at every stage of the development from the start. We look for any bugs or issues to ensure a smooth user experience. The feedback from real users during beta testing helps us with further improvements.
